Principal’s Letter to Parents – 10th March 2021

Home Lateral Flow Testing for Students

Dear Parents/Carers,

Between Friday 12th March and Tuesday 16th March the vast majority of students will have taken 3 Lateral Flow Tests in school. On the day that students have their third test they will be given 2 packs of 3 tests to be used at home which will last them for 3 weeks. They will also receive a set of separate instructions with a plain blue cover, dated 15th January on the back cover. Please read these instructions through with your child carefully. Please note that these separate instructions replace the old instructions which are inside the box of test kits. Useful instructions can also be viewed on this YouTube video: Instructions for taking a LFT at home

Students who have tested positive using a PCR Test in the last 90 days do not need to take any Lateral Flow Tests. Students without consent will be offered another opportunity to take three tests in school to enable them to receive Home Testing kits. Further information will follow next week.

Before your child takes the test please read the Privacy Notice at the bottom of this letter.

Taking the Tests

We ask that your child takes their Lateral Flow Tests each Monday and Thursday morning before they come into school. If it is not possible to take the tests on these mornings then they must be taken on Sunday evening and then on Wednesday evening each week. Students aged 11 should have the test administered by an adult, and students aged 12-17 should be supervised by an adult but can swab themselves.

Reporting your Child’s Results

Each time your child takes a test the results need to be reported.

For negative test results you will need to:

  1. report the result to NHS Track and Trace, either online or by phone, following the instructions in the home test kit Track and Trace results
  2. report the result to the school via the attached form: LFT student results

For positive test results you will need to:

  1. self-isolate immediately in line with Government Guidance
  2. report the result to NHS Track and Trace, either online or by phone, following the instructions in the Home Test kit Track and Trace results
  3. inform the school straight away by phoning Main Reception and sending your result to covidtestresults@homewood.kent.sch.uk
  4. arrange a polymerase chain reaction test (book a PCR test) to confirm the LFD home test results for your child. The outcome of this needs to be emailed to: covidtestresults@homewood.kent.sch.uk

For void test results you will need to:

  1. report the result to NHS Track and Trace, either online or by phone, following the instructions in the home test kit Track and Trace results
  2. take another Lateral Flow test. If 2 ‘void’ results are received, then you will need to arrange for a PCR test (book a PCR test)
  3. report the result to the school via the attached form: LFT student results

Distribution of Testing Kits

Test kits will be handed out to all students who have had three tests in school and for whom we have received consent on the dates below. Please could we ask that you check that the tests have got home safely as supplies are limited and we may not be able to issue replacements. Other students who have not taken all three tests will be given their kits once all tests have been completed.

Displaying Symptoms

This asymptomatic testing programme does not replace current guidance for those with symptoms or those identified as a close contact of a positive case. Anyone with symptoms, whether they are involved in this programme or not, should book a free NHS test (book a PCR test) and follow Government self-isolation guidance until the results of their test are known. In addition, testing does not replace basic preventative measures such as regular handwashing, PPE and social distancing

Students have shown exemplary maturity this week whilst undertaking these tests and we thank you once again for your continued support with this process.

Yours sincerely,

J K Single
