Letter to parents 26th April

Letter to parents 26th April

Dear Parents/Carers

I hope you all had a pleasant Easter break and were able to enjoy the exceptional weather we experienced.

I am delighted to be able to let you know that my successor as Principal of Homewood was appointed just before the Easter holiday and will be taking up his role from the start of the Autumn term. Jeremy Single is currently Deputy Headteacher at Dover Grammar School for Girls and will be coming to Homewood with a wide range of experience in school leadership. He has worked in both selective and non-selective schools in Kent and has experience as an Ofsted inspector. Mr Single was appointed to the role following a rigorous two day selection process involving staff, students and Governors. The appointment panel were unanimous in their decision and the Governors are very excited to welcome Mr Single to the school as its next Principal.

Mr Single will be spending some time at Homewood between now and the end of the year, meeting and talking with staff and students as he familiarises himself with the school ready to take over in August.

As you are aware, I will continue as CEO of the Tenterden Schools Trust, on a part-time basis, from the start of the new academic year, so I will have the privilege of working with Mr Single and the other Headteachers within the Trust in that capacity. In due course, as the Trust expands and requires a full-time CEO, I will stand down, but this arrangement allows for a smooth transfer from one Principal to the next which we all believe will be of benefit to the school.

It has been the greatest honour of my career to have spent nine years as Principal of Homewood. It is an amazing school, with incredible staff and students, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the helm. Homewood’s reputation as a school with a truly inclusive ethos, a strong focus on curriculum, outstanding support for student welfare and a willingness to innovate is well established and recognised widely within the education community. With successive “Good” Ofsted inspections behind us, we continue our journey from Good to Great, and I hand over the reins to Mr Single confident that he is the person to lead the school in the next phase of that journey.

Thank you for all the support I have received from you during my time as Principal of Homewood School. Good partnerships with parents are absolutely vital to the strength of a school and I have appreciated your willingness to work with us as we seek to secure the best possible education for your children. I know you will be looking forward to meeting Mr Single and I am sure you will give him the same support and encouragement you have given me.

I will write to you again before the end of the year, but in the meantime, as the examination season begins, our focus is on ensuring that all our students achieve the best that they can and that the remaining months of the academic year are a time of success and enjoyment for the whole school community.

Yours sincerely

Sally Lees
