Homewood School staff and students came together to raise money to change lives for Sport Relief week. Throughout the week the PE department hosted events in order to promote their fundraising. The week began with sponsored steps where students aimed to walk as far as they could within their lessons parading balloons and spreading the word about Sport Relief. Homewood’s Head of PE, Nichola Bulless, dressed up for the occasion raising even more money. On Wednesday, staff and students had a blast; students baked cakes, staff dressed up as their favourite sporting icon, Year 7 and 8 took part in intra-college tournaments and we raised a magnificent £800 in the run up to this day.
On Wednesday, Miss Kennett and the Homewood Sports Leaders visited Wittersham Primary School who raised almost £100 by getting students to wear ‘wacky’ socks and take part in a fun run organised and led by Homewood students.
However, the most challenging and gruelling fundraising event was a 24 hour overnight runathon where PE staff and selected Sports Leaders ran 155 miles on a treadmill. It was a huge success; friends, family and even pets contributed to the total mileage over the 24 hour period! As well as a visit from Kent Cricketer Jenni Jackson. All in all, everyone came together to run their socks off and the total money raised stands at approximately £1500.
